Runaway Love (A Dear John Letter)

When you wake up I'll be gone
Not a trace left on your pillows
My scent no longer hanging in the air you breathe
You will be unable to retrieve my image form your memory banks
Because by the time you wake I will have erased it
And replaced it with the reasons why I up and disappeared
Cuz when I was here I was a never a permanent fixture
Like a bottle of liquor on Friday night I was a temporary party favor
The flavor of whatever month you desired
To tell the truth I'm tired of being summoned to your unconcious dreams in the middle of the night
Despite my pleas to reach your waking reverie
I will be a faint whisper in your ears
Never sure if I was really here
Or merely a figment of your never been
An apparition in the wind
My fingerprints still on your skin
And when you begin to think you've remembered who I was
You will realize I was love
Disguised in her face
And it will be too late
Cuz I'll be gone
Sincerely,
Love
